Travel Writing Retreat: two FREE places available
We've got two fully-funded places available on our travel writing course in December. Apply now.
Last month we announced our second Talking Travel Writing Retreat will be taking place in Bourton-on-the-Water in the Cotswolds this December. The Retreat, which involves two days of seminars and press trip activities, has now sold out! But as part of our continued efforts to help create more diversity in the travel media, we’ve got two places fully funded for those from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds.
With one place funded out of our own pockets, and the other by our excellent hosts HF Holidays, we can offer bed, full board and all the weekend’s seminars free to two aspiring writers from underrepresented backgrounds. Read on for more details.
The Talking Travel Writing Retreat is supported by the Travel Connection Group. We connect travel writers and editors with travel PRs through events. Our focus is maintaining existing relationships, but also establishing new ones, so given the chance to be involved in an event that assists new people to the industry to get a ‘foot in the door’ sits well with our company ethos.
TCG’s events throughout the year include networking events in London (Zoom Out), Media Getaway, a 2-day networking event in a different UK city each year; and TravYule, a Christmas themed networking event which incorporates The Baubles, rewarding unsung heroes for excellence in specific fields.
We look forward to meeting the retreat attendees, and helping them continue their journey as travel writers.
Where and when is the retreat?
The Retreat takes place from 6-8 December 2024 at Harrington House in Bourton-on-the-Water in the Cotswolds. The closest train station is Moreton-in-Marsh; there is a bus to the centre of the village that takes around 25 minutes.
Who can apply for a funded place?
These two funded places are for aspiring or early-career travel journalists from diverse backgrounds, including those underrepresented in the travel media.
The term "diverse and underrepresented backgrounds" could mean but is not limited to the following:
People of colour
People from lower socioeconomic backgrounds
People within the LGBTQIA+ community
Those living with disability or long-term illness
Is there a waitlist for paid places?
Yes, email hello@travelwriting.xyz to get your name on our waitlist. Places will open up later this year if any current participants have to drop out. The cost of a paid place is £450. See inclusions here.
