Travel writing courses and resources

For new and early-career travel writers

We’re taking our hugely successful travel writing course to the Notgrove Estate in the Cotswolds this November. This four-day event is for new, aspiring or early-career travel writers who want to learn the tools for success in the travel media, while having the opportunity to learn in a supportive, small group setting, with direct access to us.

We’ll dive deep into the nuts and bolts of how the industry actually works, how to pitch and write award-worthy stories and how to make a living from this dream career.

Ditch the 9-to-5 and get paid to travel the world

There’s a lot of secrecy about how the travel media works. Travel writers jet off around the globe writing stories about their experiences, but who actually pays for these trips and how do writers persuade editors to commission them in the first place?

Maybe you’ve already sent pitches to editors and got nothing but silence back. Or perhaps you’re just dipping your toe into the idea of travel writing. You might be concerned that without a journalism degree or writing qualifications, becoming a professional writer is impossible.

Wherever you are on your travel writing journey, Travel Writing 101 will arm you with the knowledge you need to build a successful career as a travel writer.

For more experienced travel writers

We’ll be holding our second annual TTW mid-career retreat for professional travel writers at the Notgrove Estates in the Cotswolds in February 2027. Over the course of four days, we’ll bring together women travel writers to talk about our careers, share intel and encourage one another in a safe and supportive space.

There will be a breathwork and intention-setting session, collaborative conversations around the finances and business of travel writing, pitching, and plenty of time examining magazines and newspapers to work out what they’re commissioning from freelancers.

Are you fed up with guessing what editors want?

Most travel writers don’t struggle because they lack ideas, but because they don’t know where those ideas belong or how to shape them so editors say yes.

The Travel Pitching Index is a database analysing the content published by 37 of the world’s top travel publications.

You’ll have access to:

  • Publication insights for 37 top international travel publications

  • Easy-to-understand publication overviews

  • Detailed publication breakdowns showing sections open to freelancers and the types of stories published within them

  • Quick-reference guide to current rates

  • Editor mastheads and email formats for 37 publications

  • Quarterly updates as the media landscape changes
