Croatia press trip invite: diversifying the travel media
Intrepid is running a press trip for writers from diverse backgrounds looking to get their foot in the travel media door
One of the hardest things for new writers is getting on press trips. First you need the contacts with the PRs to even get the invitation, then you need to be able to pitch it to editors and usually secure a commission in advance. For writers without contacts or a portfolio of impressive bylines, this can be almost impossible.
That’s why Intrepid is running their first ever Diversifying Travel Media press trip from 26-30 September inclusive, which will take four writers from underrepresented backgrounds out to Croatia to experience what a press trip is like, without the need for a commission in advance.
Coming along for the ride is a group of four experienced travel writers and editors — Meera Dattani, Shafik Meghji, Georgina Lawton and Lottie Gross — who will be able to coach and mentor the new and aspiring journalists on the trip to help them find the stories and angles on which to report.
As well as exploring Croatia’s beautiful Sibenik and the Kornati Islands, the trip will include a range of educational workshops. These will be designed to help new writers navigate the travel media landscape, learn how to turn press trip experiences into commission-worthy pitches, and have a positive impact on the industry.
