In our final interview for September, we’ve got intel from the Head of Travel at The Sun newspaper.

Lisa Minot - London, England, United Kingdom | Professional ...

What’s the current situation at The Sun’s travel desk?

The Sun’s Travel team operates across all platforms: print, digital and video and social. With a small team, we try to make all coverage work across as many platforms as possible with as much integration as is possible. All print content is adapted to online with the addition of video content. We publish eight to ten pages across Saturday and Sunday in print, as well as a weekly Tuesday travel page. We work extremely closely and collaboratively with all of us contributing to both digital, print and more.

But of course, we each have our specialist areas. I cover off the print content, organise all press trips, commission freelancers, liaise with our commercial team on all commercial activity and opportunities and of course, provide commentary for the print title, online articles as well as regular appearances on TV and radio. Sophie Swietochowski also works across print pages, as well as doing social and video content.

Caroline McGuire is in charge of all our digital output as a whole in terms of strategy as well as being the first point of contact for our Sun Club paid premium content, with Kara Godfrey in charge of the daily digital content, written by Alice Penwill and Cyann Fielding.

Do you do digital-only commissioning alongside your work on the newspaper, too?
