We don’t usually appear in your inboxes on a Friday, but we’ve got some exceptional circumstances today and we’d really like to help out a friend and fellow travel editor.
Recently, Jo-Fletcher Cross — one of APL Media’s excellent editors who has kindly given some sage advice to this newsletter in the past — was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma brain tumour. Her prognosis, as she put it herself in this Twitter thread, is bleak, and so the trip to Paris she had planned with her young daughter — her last chance to take her child on holiday abroad — has been scuppered. Getting travel insurance — something most of us take for granted — when you have a terminal diagnosis is an expensive affair.
But one of Jo’s friends has set up a GoFundMe to help raise the cash to get her insured to travel. We’ve donated some of the profits from this newsletter to help Jo take what will likely be her final trip abroad, and we’re sharing this with you — with Jo’s permission to do so — in the hope you might be able to spare something, no matter how small, too.
I know Jo is incredibly grateful for any support, but really we are the ones who should be grateful: she has been a great supporter of this newsletter through her own subscription, by gifting subscriptions to friends and by offering her wisdom as an editor on some of the travel industry’s most exciting titles with you through interviews we’ve featured in past editions.
Follow the below link if you can help Jo and her daughter out. Thank you in advance for your compassion and care.
